After 30 years of political rivalry, Davao City’s Nograles and Duterte families reconciled Friday in support of the presidential bid of city mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

Former House Speaker Prospero Nograles thanked Duterte for not endorsing any candidate for representative of the city’s first district. This has left the former lawmaker’s son, incumbent Davao 1st Distrcit Rep. Karlo Alexei, unchallenged in his post.

In a gathering in Davao City, the younger Nograles declared: “Sa totoo lang, sabi ko naman sa ilan sa inyo, sa buong House of Representatives, 290 kami, walang isang congressman ang lumalabas ang leeg para kay Duterte kundi si Karlo Nograles lamang at ang Nograles family.”

Should Duterte be elected as president in 2016, he is also supposedly set on pushing the younger Nograles as the next House Speaker.

The mayor, however, kept mum on his plans. “Wala pa nga akong Cabinet. I have to craft a slate,” he said.

Duterte instead revealed that he is against tax reduction, but promised to raise wages of workers. He also plans to modernize Subic and Pampanga to decongest Metro Manila.

The Nograles patriarch, meanwhile, will no longer return to politics. He quipped, “Ayoko na mag-pulitika, gusto ko mag-playboy na lang ako.”

Nograles also revealed that while Duterte is his presidential bet, he is rooting for Senator Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. for vice president.

Duterte earlier named Senator Alan Peter Cayetano as his running mate.

The elder Nograles’ wife, Rhodora Bendigo, is a relative of Duterte.

In 2010, Prospero ran again for mayor but lost to Duterte’s daughter Sara.
