The World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) association has fired professional wrestler Terry Bollea, better known as Hulk Hogan, on Friday, July 24, due to statements that admits himself being racist.

WWE said in a statement: “WWE terminated its contract with Terry Bollea (aka Hulk Hogan). WWE is committed to embracing and celebrating individuals from all backgrounds as demonstrated by the diversity of our employees, performers and fans worldwide.”

In a report by Polygon, the association did not directly say if its decision to terminate its contract with Hogan, removing him from the WWE Hall of Fame and taking down his biography page on its website, is related to the contents of a tape of him using racial slurs. The association also stopped selling Hulk Hogan merchandise.

In the quotes from the tape, Hogan made racist comments about his daughter, Brooke Hogan’s lovelife, who was then dating an African-American guy. He was heard saying the n-word to describe Brooke’s boyfriend. Hogan even said: “I am a racist, to a point.”

Bollea, 61-year-old and 12-time world champion (six-time WWF/E World Heavyweight Championn and six-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion) has apologized and admitted what he said was wrong, expressing disappointment that he used a language that is offensive and inconsistent with his own beliefs.

“Eight years ago I used offensive language during a conversation. It was unacceptable for me to have used that offensive language; there is no excuse for it; and I apologize for having done it.” Bollea admitted.

He prides himself as someone who strongly believes that every person in the world is important and should not be treated differently based on race, gender, orientation, religious beliefs or otherwise and added that what he said then does not reflect who he is.

The consequences of his actions extends to his likeness in WWE 2K16, where developer 2k Sports have deleted him from the roster in response to WWE’s termination of Bollea, aka. Hulk Hogan.
